Whiskyfass und Käsebottich

A Cheese-Barrel for Melanie
Years ago I cadged an old copper vessel from a farm in Schleswig-Holstein. As far as I can remember, it was used for heating milk up in the process of making cheese. I intended to use it as a planter some day, as I had been seen in those popular gardening books from England. I was sceptical weather this metal would be alright for the plants´ roots, as copper is heat conductive. And so the vessel stood about for some years, being used by my husband for stiring up some building materials. But last year I did use it for the first time and planted Nasturtium
,a red Daisy and a coleus. This year I started with 'Viola cornuta' and a primrose. The plants are guarded by a gnome, which is a present of a dear friend of mine who gave it to me, when I left hospital last year. That little thing looks to the sky, as if to say "land in sight', that´s the only reason as he is granted asylum in my garden, normally I am not the type for any garden-ornaments.
Ihrer Aufforderung: "Do you have a photo of a great whiskey barrel planting?

It is not a whisky barrel, Melanie, but I hope that´ll do as well and like you, I was not really happy with the results of my planting, "Yet, it never looks good enough for me to photograph." But this time I brought myself to do it and show the results here! I really like the photos Melanie is showing in her blog with perennials in whisky-barrels, and I think, I´ll copy the idea to plant Hostas underneath!
